De-mystifying life

 ‘I wish someone told me……

Why pigs don’t fly
Why onions make you cry
Why broken hearts never heal
Why watched kettles don’t boil
Why taxis never go where you want them to go

I wish someone told me……

Why your red sari blouse bleeds  and makes all the whites pink
Why you can’t speak your mind and say what you think.
Why it never rains when you carry an umbrella
Why my phone rings when I’m looking for change
Why the shop with a million bras doesn’t have one my size
Why people address me as sir when I’m obviously a ma’am.

I wish someone told me……..

The moment you step into a cab, the bus comes along
When you tidy your cupboard, you won’t find a thing.
You throw out your old address book
That dress you never wore, your friend asks to borrow it.
And your aunt asks for more
Details about your old neighbour she met once before
At your house.

I wish someone told me…..

How soon children grow
How hard it is to let go
How easy to lie.

How tough to say sorry
And kiss one goodbye.

But then I realise how
dull life could be
If someone just told me
How things would be.

So I am happy to live
A life of uncertainty
a mystery
Unwinding,
Enchanting
Capricious,
Alarming.
Delightfully vague
Unknown and unclear
A challenge each moment
Each day
Through the year.
