This morning I finished my walk by 7 and my breakfast by 8 and found myself enjoying the house to myself. I decided to call up a few friends to find out what they were doing and when Jo suggested we go for a movie I almost gagged – 9 am is a bit too early for a movie even for two movie buffs who have nothing really better to do. I am not a great fan of Gerard Butler either but since both of us were relatively free, I decided to bite the bait and without even running a comb through my hair picked her up and drove down to PVR where the movie is currently playing.
The movie was a predictably “feel good” movie with as much fluff as the stubble on Butler’s face. I can’t understand why he goes for the unkempt look, something replicated by Dan Quaid as well. For a remarkably lightweight movie, there were some Hollywood heavy weights which had me wondering what was it about the movie that pulled in so many stars? The storyline was predictable from the word go and it comes as no surprise that the handsome George Dryer gets back his life as well as his wife………….
Luckily we spent just Rs. 100 each and had a pleasant 2 hour entertainment which was easy on the brain and the eye…….But honestly movies like this only re-inforce the hackneyed image of a stereotypical American suburban life style – desperately bored housewives, competitive soccer moms and the hustlers and sleaze balls that make up the rest of the cast.
And of course things always turn out right in the end – Now that is just a line from the movies.
In the good old days we often went to the movies only to enjoy some cool comfort which we didn’t get in our non airconditioned homes. This is one such movie which I would recommend only if your truly bored. On the other hand, it would be far better to chill in the comfort of your home with even a Newspaper for company!
