The world we live in is quite a zoo but thanks to the animal activists who would rather us watch the animals in the open rather than in a zoo, zoos themselves in danger of becoming extinct ! And I don’t think the day is far off when most children will see animals in their nurseries or on their clothes rather than in a zoo. With animal motifs the rage for baby clothes, you can find cute little teddy bears and bunnies and tigers and lions printed or appliqued on swaddle cloths, bed linen, towels, furniture and baby clothes .
Yesterday, my newly minted grandchild was gifted with two adorable soft toys – a giraffe and teddy bear – which as per protocol, had to be duly washed before being kept in the crib. So up they went on the washline today, sharing space with some fluttering nappies and bath towels. They were literally hanging in there with a clothes peg , precariously holding on against a stiff breeze. But obviously, they couldn’t hang on for long and a while later I was surprised to find the two animals face to face (with the bear’s ear coming unhung) and nuzzling each other in much the same way I cuddle up to baby. I was amused to say the least and felt bad to break up their little coochie coo……….but had no choice but to bring them down to make way for nappies and more…………
