A young Pakistani teenager ,Malala Yousafzai, made history when she celebrated her 16th birthday with an address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This was remarkable only because she was the youngest person to do so but because she had won a life and death battle to do so. Having been shot in the head by the Taliban, this brave girl defied all odds, recovered her health and reclaimed her life with renewed vigour. It is no wonder then that she has been eulogised as the Burka Avenger.
I haven’t had a chance to actually see this cartoon created by Haroon Rashid but a mere glimpse of this cartoon via NDTV last week , reminded me strangely of Bat Man, the original caped Crusader and Superman and Superwomen those other caped crusaders who relentlessly fought evil.
Comics and cartoons have unfortunately been marginalised into children’s literature but it is high time we recognise their importance and accept them as adult fare too.
