THE UBER APP

It was nearing 11 and we were about to wind up dinner. Our dinner guest quietly whipped out his iPhone and tap  tapped  the screen.  Within seconds his screen showed a map with available taxis nearby and within 5 minutes he got a call from a driver giving his coordinates. Our host took over then and gave the directions to the house and by the time we reached the ground floor, the taxi was there!

I was shocked by such efficient service and found out that it was one touch to UBER that did the trick. Apparently this taxi service with a difference is a California based company that offers impeccable service in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Pune among many other cities world wide.

Convenience at your fingertips

To avail of this service all you have to do is register with Uber and download the app.Then whenever you are in the area where Uber operates all you have to do is tap your phone and have  the driver bring along the car! With the company having your credit card details already, you don’t have to bother to pay but just keep a record of the bill so that you can cross check the amount debited to your account.

And the drivers apparently are well trained and polite and the cars sent are unmarked , well maintained and range from high end luxury models to affordable sedans.

I myself haven’t availed of this facility but a friend of mine who has swears by not only the convenience but also the reliability . Besides, she says you can easily drive up in a BMW one day and a Mercedes the next without feeling the pinch.

And considering how impossible it is to get a parking spot, how difficult it is to get a regular taxi and how unreliable fleet taxis can be perhaps downloading the App may even be a  better option than maintaining your own car!picked up anywhi
