Welcome to my world.

My blog is one place where I can be myself without worrying about my voice being too loud, my laugh too raucous or my ideas too weird.

Personally speaking

When you get attitude instead of gratitude

Every cloud has a silver lining.

After every night comes the day.

As you sow, so shall you reap.

I am an eternal optimist and always know that there is someone out there looking out for me but sometimes I wonder at His methods of showing that He cares.

I like to consider myself a person who puts others before self and seriously believe in living the message of the Gita that one should work without expectation. Of course being human this is very hard to practice and very often when things go wrong certain thoughts come to mind.

Very specifically I’m talking about the “turnaround and walkout” I experienced just the other day.

Pampa came into my life as a Godsend when my regular Bayda went on her bi-monthly three week holiday. Even though her timings were not exactly suitable to me, I had no choice but to accommodate her as she too fitted me in her busy schedule. While cooking for a family can easily be fitted in the day, at that time I was going through a major time crunch with the house being re-wired so I thought it better to have at least some food cooked for the hungry mouths that tend to rear their heads at any odd time than have this hectic last minute scramble in the kitchen.

But when Bayda returned, she was not only threatened but distinctly unhappy that I could manage without her and she made it a point to behave such that Pampa felt redundant. To cut a long story short, after her Ganesha Holiday, Pampa began coming even later and later to cook the lunch so much so that when she showed up just ten minutes before our scheduled lunch time one day, I thought it only appropriate to ask her if it made sense to cook a meal in ten minutes. I was amazed at her reaction : without feeling the slightest remorse, she told me that she couldn’t make it earlier and that I’d better look for someone else. And with that she turned around and walked away!

Of course, she is a servant and one would expect such unprofessional behaviour from an uneducated person but since I like to think that I was considerate about her feelings and  her problems shouldn’t I have expected her to reciprocate?

Obviously I was not only wrong but naive because very often I now realise that you don’t get gratitude but attitude in return for all that you’ve ever done.
