10 bad qualities in a human being

Well in case you thought I wasn’t blogging or writing these past two days, I actually was. It was just that I was unable to post and link my posts to Write Tribe simply because I still haven’t got the hang of things on my iPad. It’s been almost two years now, but thanks to the poor connectivity ( I very rarely get a 3G bandwidth even though I’ve paid for it) and my own ineptitude, I am still more comfortable with my PC rather than my iPad.

So, I am determined to meet my target of writing every day, especially on this Dussera day which is supposed to be one of the 3 1/2 auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. Any activity started on this day is supposed to be destined to succeed so I’ve always made it a point to do some activity on this day with the hope that it will be sustainable as well as beneficial.

A friend sent me a lovely Dussera message which I’d like to share :

Dasha Hara is a Sanskrit word which means removal of ten bad qualities within you

  • Kama vasana – lust
  • Krodha – anger
  • Moha – attachment
  • Lobha – greed
  • Mada – haughtiness
  • Matsara – jealousy
  • Swartha – selfishness
  • Anyaya – injustice
  • Amanatva- cruelty
  • Ahankar – Ego
It is also known as Vijaydashami which means Vijay or Victory over these Ten bad Qualities.
Thus enumerating these bad qualities which she hoped I’d conquer, she wished me a safe and blessed journey of life.

Dussera is celebrated differently in different parts of India. This ancient festival which marks the triumph of good over evil is often heralded by a thorough house cleaning which in my case, is still going on as the painting is still not over.

But as I sit in front of these clean walls still smelling of fresh paint, I can feel the resurgence of a new energy in the air and hope that the year ahead is fruitful and satisfying.

I hope all of you had a Happy Dussera!

This is my post for Write Tribe.
