On the 19th of December our school leaving class met for our 40th year reunion . December is a busy month and despite the year long notice some of us couldn’t make it. But those who did meet had such a good time that they formed a Whatsapp group and have been busier communicating over the past few weeks than they have in years!

What is it that has brought upon this sudden spurt of bonhomie ? Is it the fact that we’re getting older and have suddenly realised how our numbers are getting thinner due to age and infirmity , hence more appreciative of one another , or is it only because of the ease of communication which often requires a message to be forwarded rather than an epistle that has to be mailed or a phone call that has to be answered?

Whatever it may be, I’m not complaining for school friendships are special and enduring through the years. Do you get transported back to school when you meet your school friends? Are you beset by the same anxieties and angst? Or have you gone beyond those barriers and learnt to see your classmates with mature eyes?
