Day Thirteen: Serially Found

On day four, you wrote a post about losing something. Today’s Prompt: write about finding something.

Tell us about the time you retrieved your favorite t-shirt from your ex. Or when you accidentally stumbled upon your fifth-grade journal in your parents’ attic. Or how about the moment you found out the truth about a person whose history or real nature you thought you’d figured out. Interpret this theme of “finding something” however you see fit.

Today’s twist: if you wrote day four’s post as the first in a series, use this one as the second installment — loosely defined.

“Ma I’m coming home for a week,” said the voice at the other end. It was my daughter who lives away and was taking a break from work. I immediately set about getting her room tidy for her. For two days, we cleaned behind cupboards, cajoling dust bunnies from under the bed, aired out the curtains and  hung out the carpets making  sure that we chased away the smell  of an unused room.

Looking pleased that the room looked inviting, I realised that I hadn’t made any space for her in the cupboards. So I pulled out the clothes from the first drawer of the dresser, lined it with fresh paper and kept a bag of potpourri inside. Realising that she may want some more space, I decided to clean out the second drawer that was filled with the saris I had kept away.  As I lifted the saris slowly, taking care not to spoil their folds, I felt something rustle at the bottom of the drawer. Must be one of her laundered clothes, I thought as I pulled out the parcel.

It was not brown paper. It was newsprint,  a newspaper dated only two days old. Could it be what I thought it was? My heart missed a beat.

I could hardly control myself as I ripped it open.

And there it was –  the blue sari that had gone missing the month before.

But how did it get there?
