In case you’ve been wondering where I’ve been all this while, here’s the explanation:
I was busy with two important matters this last week – getting ready for a family wedding and deciding how to take this blog forward. There comes a time in one’s life when one can only do so much – I think I’ve reached the end of the road and if I want to continue being a serious blogger, I’ll have to take the next step forward by consulting a professional.
However, that is easier said than done. After my own futile attempts at finding an expert, I decided to be a bit more cautious in choosing the right consultant. A friend suggested the Web Doctor, a local social media expert who actually explained to me all the intricacies of social media and how it can impact one’s blog. He told me that he’d monitor my site for traffic etc for free before getting back to me with a suitable package. Alas, that was the last I’d heard from him because since then he’s been caught up with his own personal issues and I wouldn’t want to bother him at this time.
So that still left me where I was and I decided to explore some more. Two bloggers whose blogs have inspired me are Corinne whose Everydaygyaan and Vidya who really keeps you smiling with her amusing look at life and I decided to contact them to ask for help. They suggested The StrategicMama and Blogelina. I contacted both these wonderful ladies and now I am having a hard time to choose between them. Can I choose both? Obvioulsy not but I will have to make up my mind soon enough and have my blog up and running the way I want it to.
Wedding Bells
But what really kept me away from blogging was the intense interaction I’ve been having with my family. Over last weekend, my nephew got married and I got together with cousins from all over the world. While catching up, we realised that we were all meeting for the first time under one roof after a gap of 50 years! If that’s how long it takes for all of us to get together, the next time we all meet will be when we’re past 100!!!
The wedding was typically Punjabi, in the bride’s family’s tradition and was enthusiastically celebrated by all those present. Luckily it was neither big nor fat and the festivities got over within three days. But it is the pre-wedding and post-wedding activities that take up most of the time – organising clothes, jewellery and accessories for the different functions, putting them together and making sure that everything goes off perfectly and putting things back in place after the festivities – especially since the wedding was away from home.
But there is something to be said for choosing an auspicious moment because everything went off well. From the moment we put mehndi on our hands till the last toast to the bridal couple, we had a blast and I only hope it isn’t another fifty years before the cousins get together again.
