In the olden days, the only way to see the world was to see the world. ANd for those who couldn’t see the world through their own eyes, they saw the world through others’ eyes: through tales of travels, through exotic objects brought back as mementos and then later on as photographs and slide shows. With television came a new form of armchair travel where you could visit one exotic destination every other day and then later, every other hour with TV channels devoted solely to travel.
With the Internet, yet another avenue of armchair travel has opened up – through the blogs of others.
Yes it’s true there are so many interesting bloggers out there whose journeys you can share and take travel tips from especially with holidays round the corner.
Currently I’m journeying through Burma with Chicnitie who in her own words
I was born in Sofia, but spent the last 11 years in Milan between university and work.
The idea for this blog was born while I was having my hair done in one very unusual place in Bangkok. I had ended up in the Thai capital a few weeks earlier, shortly after I had decided to quit, what I used to think was my dream job in Milan.
I stayed in what-is-truly the land of Smiles for six months, looking for inspiration and new challenges. And I found them. After the mission was accomplished I decided that it was time to return back to Italy, as I had left there one very important piece of me – my one and only love.
Now I am back to work in the fashion industry and in the mean time I run my photography and social media pr business.
In this space I share my experiences and all the beauty that I see around. I have three passions and they are: food, travel and fashion (in that particular order). So here you will find posts about must visit cool places, boutiques and eateries with interesting concept, local designers that I discover, street style pictures of ordinary people from Bangok, Milan and soon Yangon. And last, but actually first in importance – useful tips and a visual diary from my trips, including both the bright and the less bright sides of the places I visit.
Debbie Smyth has an amazing view of the world and every day she posts a picture in Travel with Intent from a different part of the world . She describes herself thus:
Travelling, reading, walking, learning languages, watching wildlife, cross stitch, horse riding and shopping – pretty disparate bunch of interests, I know, but variety is the spice of life and all that.
This blog is my way of sharing my travel ideas, experiences and photographs. I hope you will find inspiration, join me for a chat now and then by leaving a comment, and most importantly have a smile or chuckle.
I stumbled upon her by chance on Skywatch Friday a blog hop which is another great way to see the world. This weekly meme which goes live on Friday morning and where bloggers from around the world post their photographs with a bit of sky in them. I just love seeing these photographs with often mind blowing scenes or winter landscapes or desert sands.
Another blog that I found accidentally on Skywatch was JaipurThroughMyLens whose spectacular views of Jaipur always want to make me go online and buy the first ticket available. ARV’s unique style of exploring Jaipur, his home city is truly engaging and quite different from the usual guide book. As he says :
I have tried to bring forth, essence of the city,in my own style, which essentially is a photo blog. The blog posts revolve around the pictures and scene from the daily life. There is a reason why this blog has been named as jaipurthrumylens! Each of us has a unique way of understanding things in our own way. Similarly, we all have our own perspective.
Jaipurthrumylens! is my perspective.I will strive my best to capture the true essence and present it here, on my blog …..
Another blogger whose photographs bring me great joy is Christina who shares some amazing picture stories of Sweden and other cities of the world in her blog From my Horizon
These are just some of the blogs I follow merely to see the world. There are many other bloggers who talk about their travels in their regular blogs like Parul who shared her journey to Hong Kong last year and recently a visit to Hampi.
So if you don’t have the time to actually travel or even the luxury to see the travel shows on tv, do visit these blogs and see the world through their eyes.
p.s. If you have your own favourite travel bloggers, do share their links with me.
