#SkywatchFriday- on coconut day

Farewell monsoon on coconut day.

Yesterday was Coconut Day when the monsoons begin their retreat. But it seems that they’ve already bid us farewell with this lingering Wednesday sunset

Traditionally the monsoons are bade farewell with a thanksgiving Pooja. Coconuts are offered to the Gods of the sea and many change their sacred thread.

Join me and other bloggers at #SkywatchFriday for beautiful skies from around the world.

  1. Lovely view, cities by the ocean amaze me, such a contrast in environments. Great shot.

  2. What a wonderful capture. I like the idea of both a ceremonial and natural marker for the end of a season. Does the change in the sacred thread involve a renewal of the original vows – or symbolic of something else?

    1. Yes kind of… Higher caste Hindu men have the privilege of wearing the sacred thread after an initiation ceremony (akin to a Bar mitzvah ) . These are the Brahmin or born again Hindus . The wearer is never supposed to remove the thread . He only removed the old one after he puts on the new one. I don’t really know much about this custom since I don’t have a son and my father, brother and husband never observed this tradition though they have undergone the ceremony….
