One Indian Girl

Yipee! 1 down and 23 to go! I actually managed to read a book this week. And that too in a day. For those who know my life, this is a major achievement. I haven’t had time to read for quite a while. As for reading a book in a day- that’s truly amazing.

The book that had me hooked was none other than Chetan Bhagat’s latest :
‘One Indian Girl’. Do I  hear some of you groaning and possibly even moaning that it is a very pedestrian read and one that could be finished in an hour?

Well in my current state, I want a book that is purely entertaining. One that doesn’t make me think and ponder over the larger questions in life. So even, though a blogger commented that she gave it up after the second chapter, I must confess that I enjoyed the book.

The Book

The book begins with  Radhika Mehta at her destination wedding. However, despite being  a highly successful over achiever, her mother considers her a loser.   Simply because she hasn’t snagged a guy. What use is the money if you don’t have a husband? This seems to be a rather regressive view of most Indian mothers.

So finally when she does meet Mr. Right, she also meets the two Mr. Wrongs from her past.  What happens then is a series of flash backs amid the mix ups in the  present.

The book is funny in parts and for the most part interesting. The story line holds no surprises and is quite easy to predict.  Bhagat’s narration is straight forward and well paced  and Radhika as the protagonist is quite endearing.

Verdict : Definitely worth a read.
