Ganesha and after

With September slipping into October and less than a 100 days left for this year to end, I realise that there is a lot left to be done on my to do list. But then, all of us are hamsters on a wheel. And I shouldn’t be too hard on myself. Should I?
This month was Ganesha’s month and I am happy that he had a pleasant stay in my home. I also managed a quick and unexpected visit to the IcchapurtiMurti opposite the General Post Office at Fort.

Did you know that the mouse at Ganesha’s feet is not only His mode of transport but also His special assistant?
As I stood before the majestic idol, I found lots of people queuing up in front of the silver mouse crouched before Him. They were waiting to whisper their special requests in his ear. This is a special reminder to the Lord and who better to remind Him than His faithful assistant the mouse? The mouse also doubles up as his special steed and the story about how this came about you can read here (recounted in a delightful post by one of my favourite bloggers Dahlia ).
Incidentally there are lots of interesting stories about this beloved Elephant Headed God You can read some of them here ( via a blog I discovered in Dahlia’s comments!)
Talking of Ganesha and bidding him farewell, Anna Shetty and I were just sharing thoughts on the immersion of Ganesha idols . Despite the increased awareness of the ecological damage caused by the toxic substances that are used in the idols, the people themselves aren’t ready to go green . I myself have been bringing out my little silver Ganesha year after year from my cupboard and immersing him in a bucket of warm water before drying him off and keeping him back .

Celebrating a birthday
Most of my friends are turning 60 this year and earlier this month I was lucky to spend a delightful lunch with my friend K who turned 60. Actually I had two lunches with her – both at places I was dying to visit.
One was a delightful, healthy vegetarian meal at Fab Cafe where the two of us just caught up with gossip over the past one month.
The other was another lunch hosted by K where two other friends joined in at Burma Burma, the eatery in Fort that specialises in Burmese food.
And more
Despite the lack of help during Ganpati week, I managed to keep home and hearth together. In fact, it is because of no help that I actually spent some quality family time.
Ms Papaya has started school and I am grateful that she managed to settle in so seamlessly. She and Little Po are now having a great time in school.
I tried the #MyFriendAlexa challenge conducted by Blogchatter and found that I had to give it up. But like every experience in life, I learnt something new with it.
And there was one more lunch with cousins at Fab Cafe and some more family dinners at the Club.
So all in all, it was a busy month with a lot of eating and meeting!
Ciao and Happy weekend to all!
