Twenty- five Seven

Personally speaking

Happy Birthday dear Gandhiji

Today is the Mahatma’s birthday. Were he alive , he’d have been blowing out 149 candles on his cake.

But being vegetarian, I’m sure he never indulged in such practices.

As I wait in the traffic watching him step out of the train, I wonder what he would have thought about the city .

For starters it is no longer Bombay

Mumbai the city has changed way beyond what Bombay ever was.

Hope you don’t get lost dear Mahatma as you step out of Churchgate Station !

This 15 foot high mural painted by Eduardo Kobra, the Brazillian Artist is a wonderful example of how art can become an integral part of urban living.

I’m sure this is one change Gandhiji would have approved of .

While the mural will be up for quite a while , the motley collection of fibreglass animals as disparate as the cow, the lion and the elephant have started languishing in the neglected garden in the traffic island .

What do you think of urban art ?

  1. Loved the artwork. Gandhiji has been my idol. When other girls of my age had posters of SRK and MJ, I put Gandhiji’s picture in my cupboard. It’s a pity that his poster wasn’t available, so I had to make do with a small one. But that’s the kind of impact he had on me.
I liked the idea of seeing the city through his eyes.
