Personally speaking

Jewels for milady’s maid

Ms. Papaya is very on of ‘jewels’ as she calls her hoard of plastic beads and bangles. She is fascinated by my jewellry box and always asks me if I would give her my jewelry when I die.

But I just didn’t know the extent of her passion for jewellry till one day, she walked into her Didi or carer’s room.

J is for Jewels

You see, in the good old days, when people lived in individual homes,  home help was common.  It was also common to house staff was in separate quarters away from the main house. Most of them were large enough for entire families to live in. But nowadays with the majority of us living in flats, a room for a live-in is often a luxury.

Our household help or live-in help has a room to herself. But it is an old fashioned room which could do with an upgrade.

So Ms. Papaya asked us why we didn’t refurbish her carer’s room.

I told her that we would do her room when we do the rest of the house.

So she said that when you fix her room please don’t forget to do up the bathroom. And also give her an AC and some jewels as well.

Jewels?

I thought it was a big ask. Don’t you?

Ciao

  7. That is a difference between India and Canada. With the exception of the very wealthy, no one has live-in help. I think visiting India would be interesting to visit because of the differences plus I love the tastes and smells of the food.
Children can say things that are very insightful sometimes.

    1. Not yet . The lockdown has made that impossible. Thank God I didn’t start it in February else I’d have had a house in a mess indefinitely
