I recently read in Elizabeth Gilbert’s book ‘City of Girls’ that New York ‘is a city that gets born anew in the fresh eyes of every young person who arrives here for the first time.’
I was awestruck when I first saw it on top of a Hop On Hop Off Bus but it was only when my dear friend in Basking Ridge actually took me up there a few times did I get over the fear and awe that I felt in this place.
By my last visit, I was beginning to feel comfortable
But my dear Ms. Papaya was only all of two when she first drove up to the City. She took to it like a duck to water.
While returning to her home in New Jersey, she turned back from time to time, to peer at the receding skyline and said confidently
“New York City I’ll be back! No Choice!”
I wonder how long it will be before she fulfils this prophecy.
Ciao
