Welcome to my world.

My blog is one place where I can be myself without worrying about my voice being too loud, my laugh too raucous or my ideas too weird.

Quiet Please! Stop Noise Pollution

Good morning and welcome to another week of adventures with my Little People.

Quiet is something alien to Mumbai. The city that never sleeps has a busy hum to it even through the late hours of the night.

Bombay traffic is horrendous. Especially at peak time, cars are crawling bumper to bumper at peak time. And motorists have the awful habit of blowing their horns. As  a matter of fact, for decades, ‘Horn OK , Please’ was the standard phrase decorating many trucks on the road.

I sincerely believe that blowing the horn doesn’t make the car in front of you go any faster. Nor does it make the traffic signal change to green.

But most motorists don’t think so and drive with their hand instinctively placed on the horn. They seem to have horn blowing in their DNA.

One evening Hubby Dear was driving the boys home. It was getting late for their dinner time and he was in a rush to get them home. With four cars in front of him, reaching on time was a remote possibility. As was his habit, he honked not once but twice, indicating that the car ahead should move.

All at once,Wow Dinga  pulled his hand off the horn and told him to stop.

That’s noise pollution Abu. You should be QUIET!

I think the newer generation is going to be more responsible and respectful of the environment than ever before. Especially with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Don’t you think so?

Ciao

Interesting point that you made with your story- the roads are much different there now I assume.

  2. Agree the young man in making.
I am a strict no honking person and wonder why we dont have a technology that mutes the horn when it’s not going to be of any use by honking but only add to noise pollution.

  3. I don’t know about other cities in India but horn blowing is definitely a Mumbai speciality. Wow Dinga is very wise. We should reduce noise pollution.

  4. I agree with Wow Dinga, horning is not necessary, it doesn’t make cars or what else go faster ;)

  5. Yes completely agree to the Bombay traffic experience. One of the reasons why people depend on Local trains more -despite the crowd in it.
Awareness of Honking is a slow change coming in- definitely in a few years we will see a positive difference on this scene.

  7. When stuck in traffic, I swear people start honking about 10 seconds before the light turns green! Worst is when they honk around hospitals.

  8. The horn blowing DNA is present almost everywhere in India. I too have great faith in the young generation. They will turn thing around for the better is my fond hope.
