It’s another half year quickly going by. But, strangely enough, despite the lack of much activity ( in my life at least ), the time just flies.
Next Thursday will be the 1st of July. And of course Prince Harry will be in London to unveil his mummy’s statue. Lucky him. At least he has somewhere to go to other than the super market. And he has other things to do like unveil statues and give interviews.
Ho hum.
Like most people the world over, I’m getting a bit frazzled about these recurrent lockdowns.
With June again in lockdown, all we could really do was eat, sleep, and repeat.
Last year’s lockdown had me slaving over the kitchen stove as my home help was prohibited from coming home as visiting staff were banned from our building.
With Daughter No. 1 lending a hand , we actually ate better than before with each of us giving in to our secret gourmet.
But this time round, with home help back in attendance, I’ve taken life a bit easy. I’ve abandoned my kitchen and left it to Shilpa to produce food that my granny would have approved of.
However, since the beginning of this month, I’ve been craving for something different. Six months of daal chawal was quite a bit for me.
Again, I’ve gone back to browsing the net for interesting recipes.
And before I knew it , I’ve been craving Korean food . The cravings have been so strong that if I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought I was pregnant!
Thankfully those days are long gone and there’s no fear of any ‘accidents’. But the cravings persist.
Occasionally I would indulge with a dish from Seoulmate but I find that the food from this closest to home Korean restaurant needs to be pre-ordered. This is highly inconvenient since my cravings aren’t regular.
So I had no option but to go back to the wok.
Last week I discovered some Kale in my fridge . I normally don’t include this vegetable in my weekly shopping list but perhaps my veggie man thought I needed to expand my green horizons.
Nevertheless, I didn’t know what to do with it. For that matter, I didn’t even know what it tasted like .
In my usual slap dash manner, I would have made it into an Indian dish – with garlic and ginger and chilli and served it as an alternative to/re-invented ‘Lasooni Palak’.
But something told me that this wouldn’t be much appreciated by Hubby Dear, the chief vegetarian in our family and a purist at that.
So I searched around in the vegetable bin and found a packet of mushrooms and some baby corn . Ah! Things were getting better .
I then went online and discovered a wonderful stir fry that needed chicken, kale and mushroom. And wonder of wonders, it was KOREAN!!!
Rather hesitantly I made it and was pleased to report that it was an instant success. It was so well appreciated that this time I bought the kale just to satisfy my Korean craving.
So thanks to Hoyusun of Korean Bapsang, I can now get my Korean fix at the stir of the wok .
Let’s hope we’ve managed to get a handle on this dratted virus and life can get back to some semblance of normalcy.
In the meanwhile, I would strongly recommend trying this dish.
Ciao
