Many years ago, when I was in Class 8 as a matter of fact, “My Family and Other Animals” by Gerald Durrell was our prescribed text book for English Literature that year. I remember laughing out loud while reading this book which in actuality was replete with his childhood adventures on the island of Corfu. There were many passages which were dedicated to animals but by and large his descriptions of his family made up for those parts which didn’t interest the non-animal lovers.
But when I re-read the book as an adult, my opinion of it was quite different. While I did find some parts funny, I wondered how some of his family weren’t offended by his depictions of them.
Hence, I feel it is always difficult to write about family and extended family because no matter how deep the affection and little the intention of ruffling feathers, there are always some egos that get bruised and some feathers that are ruffled.
So let me make it quite clear from the start, that I have no intention of telling tales or mocking or ridiculing anyone who is featured in my stories.
To begin with, there is me- a short, fat, senior citizen who muddles and waddles through life. I started out my blogging life as Penelope Potty Snooper. It then morphed into another blog and another moniker BellyBytes. Currently, I sign off as Unishta.
Then comes the MOH or Hubby Dear who is really a dear for the most part. Occasionally he does get into a tizz and we do have a rip-rollicking fight. But then who doesn’t have words with one’s better half?
Our two progeny came in quick succession and are more like twins than sisters. Prima Donna and Anna Shetty have provided me with Ms Papaya and Messrs. Wow Dinga and Little Po.
In addition to these main characters who make frequent appearances in my blog, there are my friends and other family members too.
In case you get confused as to who’s who, don’t worry. What matters is the event.
So here’s hoping to meet you here regularly,
