Do you really need a pregnancy pillow?

Anyone who knows me will ask this very obvious question because they know the equally obvious answer – NO. So how did I land up with a Pregnancy Pillow in my home?

Obviously it came home when one of my daughters was pregnant. In fact I would strongly recommend a pregnancy pillow to every woman because

increased weight and bulk particularly in the later months, finding a comfortable position to sleep is even more elusive than sleep. Many pregnant women land up tossing and turning and spending night after sleepless night. Considering that your nights will go for more of a toss after the baby is born, it is better to have a restful night during the pregnancy itself with the help of a pregnancy pillow.

Besides, a pregnancy pillow helps with problems like lower back pain sciatica, carpal tunnel, nasal congestion, heart burn or even Gastric reflux that arise when forced to sleep in positions other then the natural sleeping position.

Thus it was that the Leachco Pregnancy Pillow ( or Snoogle as it is called) found its way into my house. It was still useful after the baby was born and was used to prop up baby when she was learning to sit and also later on to coral her when she just began to crawl. Currently we use it to stop her from crawling under the sofa.

A strange oval object came out of my mother-in-law’s luggage when she re-located from Africa. It was an Ostrich Egg, quite easily the largest egg I’d ever seen and quite frankly, the ugliest. It’s hard shell with tiny pock marks has got yellow with age over the years .

With my previous experience of eating egg other than a hen’s (we had duck eggs once thinking that they were nice and big hen’s eggs) I was happy that the egg was drained of all its contents and I didn’t have to bother with cooking it. So I kept it carefully in the glass case where we keep all our “show pieces”.

Little known facts about Ostrich eggs

However, there seems to be a market for ostrich eggs and emu eggs ( remember the scam in Ravi Subramanian’s novel Bankerupt? ) especially among those seeking the exotic. However, you should be aware of some facts before you crack the egg open
- an ostrich egg weighs 1.6-2.3 kg
- a female ostrich lays 40-60 eggs in a year
- an ostrich egg takes 42 days to hatch
- 1 ostrich egg = 24 hen eggs
- you need a domestic drill to crack it open, not the back of a spoon
- it takes 90 minutes for a hard boiled ostrich egg
- it takes 30 minutes for a soft boiled ostrich egg
- an entire ostrich egg contains 2000 calories
- ostrich eggs are a good source of Thiamine
- ostrich eggs have less saturated fats and cholesterol than chicken eggs
- ostrich eggs don’t contain sodium
- you can’t buy ostrich eggs in India.
The best nail file for perfect nails #a to z Challenge

A well groomed person will always have well kept nails and many men and women go for regular manicures and pedicures. However, I’ve never been a mani-pedi type and didn’t bother with my nails till I received a KOH crystal Nail File.

I was puzzled as I looked at it. What do I do with it? However, G looked at me expectantly, waiting to hear the OOOHS and AAAHS so I quickly converted my gasp of surprise into one of appreciation saying “Oh My God! Just what I wanted! What an unusual gift!”

G looked suitably happy.

“I’m so glad you liked it,” she trilled, ” I didn’t know what to get someone I didn’t know.”

Well, that was a strange gift and she took a big gamble, I thought, as I tucked it away in my cupboard before it smashed into a million bits. And it stayed there till one day till curiosity got the better of me and I decided to give it a try. Rather gingerly I took it out of the velvet lined box and filed my nails. Fine dust flew around and when I touched the nails, I was shocked at how smooth the edges were and groomed my nails looked! Obviously G wasn’t the Blonde Bimbo she seemed to be. The KOH Crystal Nail file is really good value for money because you can have perfect nails in your own home!
