Yesterday I was sitting in the garden below my building when I looked up and saw this burst of cloud scattered all over the blue sky. It was a lovely evening with the setting sun, soothing green grass at my feet, the gurgling of my infant grand daughter relaxing in her carry cot and a light breeze lulling us to happiness. I looked up when I saw this wonderful sight of cloud burst running across the bright blue sky…………I just had to capture this moment forever.

I am linking this post to Skywatch Friday where you can see other brilliant skies from across the world. I’ve been away from this blog hop simply because I’ve forgotten to post but I haven’t stopped visiting this site for some uplifting views of the sky.

  • If everybody drives a Mercedes there’ll be no one to see  you drive by in one!

I don’t even know if this is a genuine quote or if it is just a witticism by one of my friends (whose name once again remains lost in my slowly fogging memory) so I can’t attribute it to anyone. Similarly, the video I’m reproducing below comes without any credits so I can’t acknowledge the real originator, but a good laugh needs to be shared especially when the message it conveys is so deep and relevant to our lives. Once again I’d like to thank my school Whatsapp group for providing this information especially Pradeep for his daily dose of laughs.

Social media has almost taken over our lives and events now are choreographed:  LoveShoots capture the love of young couples which are shared on FaceBook, wedding memories are as carefully choreographed as the Sangeet and artistic “meaningful” photographs/videos replace the standard shots of the bride and groom going through the rituals, Uncles and Aunties that appear in your life are put up on social media sites only if they are “worthy” of being associated with and I’m convinced that  food photos that make you drool are really photoshopped (my chicken makhanwalla still looks home made when I photograph it). Baby photos look like they’re shot by Anne Geddes and everybody who has a camera has a DSLR that takes pictures that are AMAZING! AWESOME and WOW!

Call me dumb, but I still can’t get the hang of Tweeting and Tweets. Does that mean I’m not witty enough or not astute enough or simply not cool enough? And why would it matter if I don’t have a single FOLLOWER or a single LIKE or a single FRIEND on any of my social media identities?

But to be honest, it does matter because like the same friend said,

what’s the point in having a Mercedes if there’s no one to see you drive by!

How many of our actions are driven by pure passion and a desire for personal fulfillment and how many are attention seeking “LOOK AT ME” ?

  • On Friday evening, I had invited my friends over to meet my grandchildren over a cup of tea. I thought it was the best way for everyone to meet everyone and especially meet the children who weren’t going to be staying around for too long as both their moms are scheduled to go back to work. So I spent the last two weeks plotting and planning who I would call and what I would serve. What I didn’t anticipate was the gifts that my friends would bring. Of course it is customary for the newborns to get gifts but old grannies? I didn’t think I merited any special gift but I was obviously wrong because when we opened the goodies, I found three gifts specifically for me including this gorgeous box of assorted chocolates . Now you might argue that the box was to be shared by all those at home especially the nursing mothers but luckily both of them are convinced that chocolates are bad as the babies become testy . Of course I could have offered them to the rest of the family but I was suddenly reminded of the sinful pleasure my friend Jo and I experienced when we demolished the box of assorted chocolates  that was a  birth announcement addressed to her mother-in-law . “She’s out of town,” Jo reasoned, ” and will be back only when the chocolates have melted ,” so without a twinge of guilt tried one chocolate after the other, till by tea time we had finished them all!

Oh! the joy of discovering the joys of  a box of assorted  chocolates –  which despite the cheat sheet accompanying them makes you wonder what each little tidbit really tastes like. And then when you find one too fruity, you go for the next which if it is too crunchy, you go for the next which might be too bitter  and so on and so forth till you come to the perfect flavour. Most times the perfect flavour coincides with the last one as Jo and I found to our horror when we looked at an empty box. We were horrified not only at the emptiness but at the  uncontrollable greed of two middle aged women who had more than a middle to watch out for. Funnily, till today we both remember the shock and secret pleasure we felt as we gobbled down each delectable chocolate – one by one – unbeknownst to anyone and when either of us sees a box of assorted chocolates we break into giggles of unrepentant pleasure.
