I’ve almost always been late for any challenge so this time it is a first for me to actually be well in time for the A to Z challenge. The A to Z challenge requires 26 posts, one each day for each letter of the alphabet. While I do land up writing something or the other every day (even if it is just filling out a cheque paying in slip!) it is quite a challenge to make a commitment to write everyday. I remember joining the NaNoWriMo two years ago and just about lasted a week. I gave the challenge a skip the next two years and last year I did go the whole nine yards but wound up my story in 20,000 words. So obviously there’s a mismatch somewhere between my perceived capacity and actual capacity. So this month round, I’m going to make sure that I stick to the target of 26 posts from A to Z in the month of April with not a gap in between.

Well, at the outset, let me make a confession – this is not going to happen simply because I’ve noticed a perverse phenomenon which I am sure strikes all of us. Quite simple stated , the minute you make a resolution to do something, something else happens to make it impossible for you to stick to. Let me make this simpler with examples :

The minute you go on a diet, you’re invited out to dinner every night.
The minute you decide that you want to exercise regularly, you slip on the carpet and sprain your ankle.

You get the drift don’t you?

Well, this year I’ve joined the A to Z challenge knowing full well that from days 4-5 I will definitely not be in a position to upload my posts even if they are ready, simply because I will be holidaying and am unsure whether I will be able to manage it on my iPhone via WiFi. Also, since this is a first for me and I don’t really have any theme in mind, I’ve decided to play it safe and write about whatever catches my fancy. I believe this is called  Word Association. So on day 1 which is A, I will open up the computer and write about the first word that comes to mind when I articulate A.

I hope you don’t think this is easy because very often it is hard to find words to describe or write about things that come spontaneously. It should be fun as well don’t you think?
