Well, it’s that time of the month again when we sit back and take stock of what we have and what we don’t . It’s strange but this is the ritual I also follow for my regular groceries and my stock of medicines. In fact, it is one of the more interesting aspects of housekeeping where I analyze the consumption of oil, rice, wheat and sugar and compare it with the consumption of these items last month. I then make a list of what I require in the store room, the medicine cabinet, the laundry, the linen cupboard and the other odds and ends that need repair or replacement. This is because I like to be organised and avoid any last minute glitches. Of course, this doesn’t mean that my life runs like clockwork – quite the contrary because life throws you curve balls every day!

But now that July is coming to an end, I have a lot to be grateful for:
1. The first half of July got me a new grandson and I am grateful that I have the opportunity and ability to take care of him.
2. Thank you all the ladies who help me with my housework – taking care of the mundane tasks like cleaning and dusting. Without them, I’d be really at a loss.
3. I am glad that the Rain Gods have listened to my prayers and it has rained only when I was doing nothing important and could sit at home and watch the clouds pour down.
4. I am grateful that my erratic tailor actually got my measurements right and stitched my blouses before I changed my size. (He normally takes so long to get anything done that I invariably become too tight for my new clothes.)
5. I am grateful for the friends that I have – who understand my time constraints and still remain my friends despite my feeble attempts at keeping in touch.
6. This month two of my friends lost their fathers making me realise how lucky I am to still have my parents because as they say, you never really grow up until you lose your parents. I’m glad that as a granny I can still be a “kid” myself.
