Twenty- five Seven

Personally speaking

Tall, light and sexy #ChampIsBack

You’re sadly mistaken if you think I’m talking about myself. (For the record, I’m short, fat and matronly) . What I’m referring to is the new Android Phone LG’s Nexus 5 which is taller and lighter in weight than Apple’s iPhone 6 ergo sexier since weight is what determines sexiness in today’s world.

While I am no expert in technology and actually grew up in a world free of phones ( at least in my home) for me a phone is just a phone is just a phone, an idea shared by many phone geeks like Kris Carlon of Androidpit, I am , however, a self confessed gizmo freak and much to the amazement of my children and peers, actually like to spend time and money over new gadgets even though I’m a professional home maker. So here’s my two penny bit on what I think of the Nexus 5 based on the reviews I’ve read about it :

Capturing the soul of the Nexus family, the 5X offers top-line performance in a compact, lightweight device that’s ready to go anywhere, anytime. Beneath the 5.2-inch display is a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor for world-class speed at an affordable price.

LG NEXUS 5X carries the brilliant legacy of the Nexus family forward, with stunning specs and looks to match. The LG Nexus comes equipped with the Nexus Imprint, a fingerprint sensor that takes security and accessibility to apps to another level. Its camera gives you the added advantage of awesome photos in any light, with its 1.55μm-sized pixels. And you’ll never run out of battery even after using all the amazing Google apps, because its reversible USB Type-C charger charges at lightning speed!

So what does this mean for me?

  1. The finger imprint means that when my grandson gets his grubby hands on my phone, he won’t be able to fool around with the settings and have me wonder why my phone is acting crazy! So often I find that when I put on my phone he’s somehow managed to fiddle around so that my phone language has changed to Spanish or that the photo settings have changed. Needless to say, I spend precious minutes trying to re-set the phone back to the default settings which I am familiar with.
  2. While I have a camera, it’s not often easily accessible especially when I have to capture that gorgeous smile before it turns into a wail. Equally, it is not always possible to position the baby in the right light and many of my photos have babies in silhouette simply because I was facing the light. This problem should be solved with the new Nexus 5 since it takes awesome images in all kinds of lights.
  3. And for the zinger : With “Wheels on the Bus going round and round all through the day  and “Teletubbies” washing their knees for hours on my phone, the battery does tend to run down, especially when I have to make that crucial call. Besides, it isn’t always possible to re-charge the battery as grandson has now abandoned his afternoon nap and the phone and its downloaded applications are often the only way to give him some down time…..Naturally, a longer battery life will be a great help.

And sorry Tim Cook and all you guys at Apple, even though you have a great phone and great technology, I’m no real fan of yours. I still find my phone hangs and with it my phone numbers get deleted. I also find it very irritating that I can’t redial the last number dialled. But what is worse is that the phone dialler doesn’t recognise dialled numbers and doesn’t have a Speed Dial feature that all Android phones have.

So shouldn’t I give in to temptation and  try the Nexus 5 X ?
