Rainy Day Blues #MondayMusings

We all have bad days, but one thing is true; no cloud is so dark that the sun can’t shine through.

Miranda Kerr

On Sunday we celebrated Little Po’s birthday and luckily it turned out well. I was supposed to make cake and sandwiches – an easy enough task. But believe it or not, the cakes were flat.

I was disheartened, disappointed and devastated. Imperfect cakes are not a novelty and in the old days, I invariably managed to pull it off with a quick fix rescue operation. But on Saturday nothing worked . In hindsight that could very well have been the problem- the old baking soda and old baking powder that didn’t work.

Sadly, I realised this after the cake was baked . Never mind, I consoled myself. I was sure the sandwiches would be perfect. After all, I’d even ordered special bread. And what could go wrong with sandwiches ? Apparently, they can. The next day my Nutella pin wheel sandwiches were a dismal failure. I had to abandon plans after the first slice of bread refused to slice. This time the fault lay in the bread – it was too fresh.

When simple things start going wrong , I have only one solution- don’t do anything. Just wait and bide your time for there are times in a person’s life when things go wrong for no reason.

Over the years I’ve observed  a strange phenomenon: things strangely go awry when the rains come pouring down. Does that happen to you?

For the past week the rain clouds have gone but the rainy day blues have not .

  1. Ah. But for me, the rains are an omen of good things to come. :-) Maybe it’s the pluviophile in me, or the wonderful memories from childhood I associate with rain, but I don’t see things going awry when the rain comes pouring down.

But when things start going awry, I stop, calm my mind and then see things again. The cloudiness in my sight begins to clear then. :-) Nice musing. And I love the quote at the start from Kerr.

    1. Well I love the rains but generally find things going wrong at that time . Not every year but every other year. Failed cakes are just the tip of the iceberg …. hopefully things will get better soon

  2. Oh I can imagine how disheartening that can be. But all’s well that ends well, I hope.
I love your take on the rain causing a different kind of havoc.

  4. This birthday tale sounds somewhat similar to what I experienced on the day I had arranged Dhruv’s birthday party. It rained excessively that day. The return gifts arrived later in the day. The cake arrived, after several follow-ups and anxious moments, after the guests started pouring in. And two of my relatives, who live at the other end of the city and who were to come early to do the decorations, got caught up in the traffic snarls and reached just 5 minutes prior to the guests. I love the rains as long as I am at home and there is nothing special planned for the day.
