I haven’t been out much these days because Wow Dinga’s summer vacations have been extended and my mornings go by in keeping an eye on him. Luckily this works out well for Ms. Papaya who otherwise would have been bored. But since the time is too short to make a quick trip anywhere, I couldn’t go out to take photos of trees in my neighbourhood.
Luckily, I figured that I could post old pictures and while going through my files, I found this beautiful Baobab tree inside the Victoria Gardens as it was known when the tree was first planted.
As the tree grew bigger, the garden morphed into Veer Mata Jijabai Udyan. Perhaps it is fortituous that the BMC’s apathy in a way ‘preserved’ this garden which otherwise would have fallen to the developer’s avaricious hands like most of Mumbai’s green spaces.
I first heard about the Baobab tree when I read St. Exupery’s Little Prince .
Though this tree is native to Africa, I found two alone in South Mumbai. Let’s hope that these magnificent trees that can live for centuries actually live for a few years more and don’t suffer the fate of Africa’s Baobab trees that are slowly dying for some strange reason.
Sharing this post with Parul’s #ThursdayTreeLove-45 where you can see other tree lovers share their posts.
Have a great Friday!
Ciao
