In the good old days, I remember my granny telling me the story of the Crow and the Sparrow while having my meals. In this story, a wet crow wants shelter in a sparrow’s home. Now the crow’s house was made of cow dung which got washed away during the rains. The sparrow’s house was made of wax hence it withstood the rain.
This traditional folk tale can go on for as long as the child is eating because the sparrow keeps on making excuses not to open the door and let the crow in. And with each excuse, granny would stuff a morsel into my mouth.
But this granny is short of patience. Besides, my grandson was born in the time of technology. He much preferred the nursery rhymes and stories on YouTube to my rambling stories that became more and more ridiculous with each meal.
However, one day, YouTube refused to work. I was getting frantic because Wow Dinga was now completely hooked onto his lunchtime story and wouldn’t eat without it. But he showed remarkable calm and said
“Ajji, why don’t you delete your YouTube App, reboot your iPad and install it again?”
And this from someone who was just 2.5 years old? I definitely didn’t know how to do more than putting a light switch on at that age.
Ciao
