Twenty- five Seven

Personally speaking

A is for Aarogya Setu

Hello and welcome to this year’s edition of the #A to Z Challenge.

As mentioned in my theme reveal, CoVid has undeniably impacted all our lives and introduced us to many new things, ideas and words. Some of them are literally life changing while others we hope will soon vanish once the Virus vanishes or mutates to a harmless little creature.

Join me as I share with you the twenty-six new lessons and words that I have learnt in the times of Corona.

What it is

This loving heart made way its on my phone when the government mad it mandatory to download this app to combat the War Against Corona.

With total of 17,13,00,000 downloads so far, it seems to be helping in controlling the spread of Corona.

I first found out how deadly this virus could be when I came upon a blog la borsetta delle donne in last year’s, challenge. This blogger living in Milan has an interesting blog (which is well worth visiting)and still posts a daily update on CoVid 19 !

So you can understand how important it is to have a digital recorder of this disease on your fingertips.

What it means

Aarogya means without disease and setu means bridge. These two Sanskrit words used together means bridge to liberation from disease

What it does

Aarogya Setu uses contact tracing to record details of all the people you may have come in contact with, as you go about your normal activities. If any one of them, at a later point in time, tests positive for COVID-19, you are immediately informed and proactive medical intervention is arranged for you.

For registration of Aarogyasetu, the individual needs an Indian mobile number operated in India.

Android Version 5 & above and iOS version 10.3 & above ( Information courtesy Google.)

Why you should use it

Initially many people were resistant to downloading this application. After all, it literally tracked your movements and those of the people you came into contact with ( only if they had downloaded the app). Initially people were scared that this app would not only track their movements but would also impinge on their privacy.

Most of us thought that the virus would vanish within a week, a month or at best three months or so.

However, as the virus showed no signs of saying goodbye even after the vaccination was introduced, it became apparent that the app is necessary for our protection. .

So there you have it, my first word and first lesson.

Do leave your comments in the box below and hope to see you tomorrow!

Ciao

  1. I understand the hesitancy to use an app like that but it seems to have helped in other countries, too, so I’m glad it’s available! Love the meaning of it, such a beautiful expression.

  2. A similar app was introduced here in Italy too, but it didn’t go anywhere. Too few people downloaded it. For a question of privacy, but also for other problem. For example, my sister couldn’t download it because her phone was too old and didn’t support the app.

    1. Yes, isn’t it strange how we all respond to the same stimulus in a totally different way! I do believe many other countries have adopted a similar kind of App to track cases

  8. I share a ‘love and hate kind of relationship with Arogya Setu. I have installed and then removed it atleast 4 to 5 times. Recently when my mother tested positive, she learnt about it on Arigya Setu than knowing it from the actual report! So now I wish revise the status of my relationship to this app to ‘amicable’ :)
Wish you all the best Sunita for A to Z challenge. Look forward to read and resonate with your CoVid lessons.
