Welcome to my world.

My blog is one place where I can be myself without worrying about my voice being too loud, my laugh too raucous or my ideas too weird.

📅 World Emoji Day — July 17, 2021

Can you believe this ?

Finally something as trivial as Emoji has been legitimised and immortalised ad WORLD EMOJI DAY .

This is a triumph for all Social Mediologists ( have I just coined a new word?)

I mentioned this to 6 year old MD Papaya this morning over breakfast and you should have seen the expression on her face !

There are times when I have left my phone unattended and discovered it to be full of EMOJIS.

This is all thanks to Ms Papaya who has taught me a thing or two about this new language called EMOJI.

Initially, I thought it was a variation of the name IMOGEN.

Then, my dinosaur brain processed it as a Japanese dialect. Since I don’t know a word of Japanese except for Teppanyaki, I thought it may just be Japanese. Or at least of Japanese origin.

It definitely didn’t sound like an English word to me . Definitely not the kind of spoken English I’m exposed to : the clipped British accent on BBC, the nasal twang of CNN or even the “we’re like that only” English I hear everywhere around me.

What is an EMOJI ?

After acronyms  like TTYL and LOL, ROFL flooded the internet, it was only natural that emojis became the next level of  digital communication .

There’s nothing like a graphical representation of an emotion to really get the point across, is there?

Hence, the computer geeks made the EMOTICON.

What started out as a simple sunny faced smiley gradually  evolved into a whole host of yellow faces  with a smile turned downwards to depict a sad face , a blushing yellow face for embarrassment, a wide eyed yellow face for amazement and shock .

I am reproducing below a Pin to provide you with a quick compendium of smiley faces. I’m sure this is quite redundant now but to many of my generation who tend to forget, this is for them ( you Golden Oldies).

My apologies to the owner of this pin for not attributing your contribution to this post but I can’t remember how I found this on PINTEREST

Gradually these evolved to include people, objects and signs.

Then came animals and finally individualised emojis .

This means you can create a cariacature of yourself ( Gravatar )

and use this to display your emotions .

My EMOJI Story

Hello ! This is me as an emoji

Oh no ! I don’t really look like this . This lady looks more like my neighbour on the 13th floor .

Wouldn’t it be fun if she saw this ? We could almost pass off as twins. And that won’t make her happy since she is half my size .

Well ! This was a great way to learn some digital speak. And it has also inspired me to make some pop corn. Great idea on this grey but not really wet day especially since the Little Ones aren’t around to demand a fair share.

A new trend?

Who knows?

After podcasts and vlogs, I may have just started a new trend called EMOJILOGS.

It is called EMOJI ME

There are lots of other apps too which I am not going to research because right now I want to go back and enjoy the pop corn that is popping in my microwave.

If you want to make your own Emoji, download the Free App on your device .

Quite an education. I realised many of my guesses were slightly but significantly off the mark!
