  • Cleaning up

    Did you know that  Mumbai generates 8700 tonnes of solid waste every day? That is a lot of garbage to collect. 

    And it is equally hazardous for the conservation staff clearing up the mess.

    To streamline the collection process, the Municipality has introduced waste segregation and severe penalties to those flouting the rules.

    Seeing the crows picking up garbage one day, Ms Papaya came up with a novel idea.

    Why doesn’t the Municipality employ crows to clean up the garbage?

    That way men won’t have to get their hands dirty.

    It doesn’t seem a bad idea to tackle our garbage solution, isn’t it?

  • Daily Prayers and the Sanskrit Effect

    I had read somewhere that Sanskrit is very good for the brain. Particularly if children are taught to learn mantras and recite them every day. Several scientists have studied the effect of Sanskrit on young brains and have called this the Sanskrit Effect. Apart from this benefit, I personally think young children should have a sense of gratitude for what they have. And what better way to inculcate this practice than making them say their daily prayers?

    Every evening after her bath, I make Ms. Papaya light a lamp in the family shrine and recite a few Sanskrit prayers . Occasionally, when Little Po spends the evening with me, he happily joins in.

    After the Sanskrit mantras that the twiblings recite lustily and with enthusiasm, they are given a minute of silence to say their own personal prayer.

    While Ms. Papaya is quiet, Little Po is very clear about what he wants from God. He whispers loud enough for God to hear:

    “God please let there be enough fish in the ocean so that I can eat them!”

    It is quite obvious that Little Po is a hard core pescatarian.

  • Handling employees

    Hello and welcome to Week 2 of the AtoZ Challenge.

    Handling people at work is not an easy task. Every company employs people from diverse backgrounds and levels of education. In addition, every employee has his own set of attitudes and ideas. It can be quite frustrating to get your ideas across. And even more frustrating, is to make them do things the way you want them to be done.

    Daughter No. 1 was complaining about the poor choice of employees and how difficult it was to get them to listen to her. 

    Listening to his aunt’s complaint, Little Po came up with a wonderful solution.

    “Why don’t you put all the people who don’t listen to you into the washing machine?” he asked.

    Auntie immediately forgot her frustration and looked at the problem with a fresh set of eyes!

    Imagine if all HR problems were so easy to handle!
