Across the road from where I live, are two flowering purple trees. According to me they are the Jacaranda- a tree that is native to South America .

It is also native to India because it has a name in Sanskrit too – one that sounds remarkably like the English name .

But last week, When Shalz posted up pictures of the Tabebuia Rosea or Pink Trumpet Tree , I began wondering if my Jacaranda was really a Jacaranda.

Could it be a Crepe Myrtle? Or could it just be another variety of Tabebuia?

This set me in quite a tizz and I tried to get up close and photograph the blossoms .

They didn’t seem trumpet like to me and it was far too early to identify the seeds .

Now I know why our parks of old had the names of trees and plants marked on them . What seemed like a fuddy-duddy idea then seems extremely practical to me .

So if any of you can help, I’d be glad to know what is this purple tree .

Happy Mother’s Day all mums and have a great Sunday!

Hope the trees are blossoming in your part of the world

  • Last night as I was feeding Ms Papaya, I looked up and saw the sunset. There were no words to describe the changing sky as it morphed from ripples of white cloud into a peachy pink that slowly turned deeper into magenta and then purple before finally giving up to become dark .

As the sky welcomed the darkness so did I .

It has been a hectic week for me and I can’t wait for the weekend to begin.

This morning’s glorious sunrise does promise to be a great start to the weekend .

My western sky was bathed in sunlight while the eastern side was marvellously clear.

Now doesn’t this hold the promise of a glorious day?

Tomorrow I’ll be attending the opening of a boutique that designs high end scarves and stoles. Studio KalaNiketan promises accessories look good and make you feel fantastic.

And with Sunday being Mother’s Day, I’m actually going to take the day off and order in the food.

So what does your weekend look like ?

Image for Cat Under the Tree

With due apologies to the Beatles, I’d like to be this cat under the tree, sleeping in the shade, all curled up.

    Mumbai’s sun is beating down.

My trusty maid is out of town.

    So is the driver.

    Leaving me

With tonnes of work to do.

    By end of day

I’m all wrung out and wish that

    I could spend my time

Curled up like this kitty cat.

In case you think I’m grumbling, I’m not.

I am actually enjoying my Summertime in a city that is nearly empty.

With schools closed, the roads are clear and even though I am pretty much housebound, I’m enjoying doing housework. This gives me time to do some major clean up and also sharpen my culinary skills.

And while I’m bustling about the house, my Little Po and Ms Papaya are playing their own games of makebelieve. As I catch snatches of their  ‘adult’ conversation in their own baby talk, I count myself among the lucky few who still have lots of things to do.

So before this post gets too wordy, I’d better get back to my busy day.
