• It’s the last Monday of the month and I’m amazed yet again how quickly it’s gone by. Of course it’s also two days short of a regular 30 day month but do two days make a difference ?

A difference to what you may well ask ? It’s to my figures . This month I’ve been fairly regular with my blogging . There are 20 posts up , believe it or not over 6 blog hops. I’ve commented regularly too . The one post that got the most views was the #FlavoursomeTuesday post featured in my monthly blog hop that I’m co-hosting with Shilpa which had 112 views .

But the statistics are as gloomy as the weather in Raritan, where I am currently visiting with my daughter and Ms Papaya. I just can’t seem to hit the 100 views a day mark and the footfalls have been as low as 5 on certain days.

My regular visitors too seem to have fallen off which leads me to believe that either our honeymoon is over or they have other things to do.

The first quarter of the year is when a strange virus called EXAMITIS makes its nationwide strike . With many of my regular followers having school going children, I can understand that blogging is an activity that naturally gets relegated to the back ground.

But as a mother who has gone through several examinations I wonder if parents should allow this annual affliction to affect their lives to such an extent .

I know parents who not only cut out all extraneous entertainment during this time but even stop out station visitors from dropping by. Television is a NONO and some parents even cut off the cable for this time.

The entire household is in EXAMITIS mode and every one is advised to tip toe carefully and talk softly around “the candidate/candidates” who are up for exams.

So as I wonder about this drop in footfalls I wish all the mothers and the children suffering from EXAMITIS a speedy recovery .

Good luck and keep calm .

  • Are you a wino or a whino?

A good glass of wine adds to the flavour of the food . If it goes down well, it even improves your mood . You feel a bit fuzzy in the head which is fine if you’re not at the wheel because sometimes you need a little something that takes of  the sharp edges of life.

No, I’m not advocating the use of substances to tackle those blues or dips in your life – just suggesting that it will serve you well to occasionally share your woes with some one .

Keeping your problems to yourself can be injurious simply because you keep thinking about them all the time . A small little irritant can become a huge big boulder , like a pimple that turns into a huge festering boil. Why wait for such a thing to happen ? Just indulge in a good bout of self pity rather than brushing it under the carpet.

It’s good to vent and feel sorry for oneself. After all if you don’t feel sorry for yourself who will?

But in this wonderful pity party where you are the sole guest, you must remember that no one loves a whiner. While there are some people who love hearing out your sad stories, the fascination for your misery dies the moment it becomes a regular feature .

“It’s all right to sit on your pity pot every now and again. Just be sure to flush when you are finished”. ~ Debbie Macomber

So how does one flush out the pity?

Unfortunately, print media is no longer fashionable but reading the Obituaries and the Agony Aunt columns was the best way to stop feeling sorry for yourself . Seeing the solemn faces of the newly departed always made me feel good about myself . Thank God I’m still alive !

Look out the window and feel happy that you are NOT out there but safely ensconced in your own little bubble.

Call up a friend who you know is going through a tough time . Being her sounding board will help her and help you realise that your life is not so bad. It also makes you realise that we all have problems .

Remember your experience is unique . Sharing it is essential.

  • A positive act of kindness isn’t necessarily one that affects humanity at large . Sharing a positive thought is an act of kindness too .

Very often random acts of kindness can be found in ordinary everyday actions like this advice that I read on a BLOG !

I think it deserves a place in the #WATWB simply because it is a piece of advice that will resonate with many.

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world. It is one job that has no formal requirements – in fact many parents stumble into this job purely by accident . Even for those who have ventured into this by careful planning, there are instances that take you by surprise.

What do you do when your baby first cries? Do you rock him? Pat him? Console him? Feed him? As usual there are at least ten solutions to this situation and every expert you ask will give you a different opinion .

And the learning never stops because parenting is a lifelong job.

As your baby grows up and faces the world , your heart will swell with pride when you see him take things in his stride. His baby steps are yours and his victories are yours too .

So when your baby’s heart is broken, you can see a crack in your’s as well . How do you console a child when you have no real answers to ease his pain ?

Yesterday, I got a notification from one of my favourite bloggers that one of his posts helped his son get over a romance gone sour.

It is not only helpful but also brought a smile to my face. I’m sure it will make you happy too .

Read Stuart M Perkins‘ post here :

I found this post heart warming and practical. Stuart M Perkins writes charming stories about everyday life that always bring a smile to my face.
