For those who’ve been wondering about my absence , let me tell you that I’ve been disconnected from my Virtual World because of computer burn out .
When I jabbed the on/off button of my computer, it remained stubbornly unmoved and repeated jabbings refused to bring it back to life.
Not only did this send me into mourning but also left me disconnected. I do have the option of blogging on my mobile but my wifi connectivity is iffy which makes it quite a frustrating experience especially if you want to add images, links etc.
Of course my trusty computerwallah hop skipped it to my place but the incessant rains in Mumbai has hampered regular movements ….. You know the story don’t you?
So that explains my enforced silence this week .

Shopaholics like Becky Bloomwood will loveThe Mall of Dubai . While Becky is imaginary, the mall is not, and is a living testament to how a desert can become home to luxury brands and luxurious living. I must confess that I’m not a great shopper – my motto is ” a fool and his money are soon parted”. But I am not fool. However since no visit to Dubai is complete without a trip to the Mall of Dubai I just had to go. And, I would gladly recommend it to any visitor to the area. Apart from its sheer size and magnitude , the air conditioning is top class and it is a great place to hang out in to avoid the blistering heat.
When I visited Dubai last year, I was literally gob smacked. The large aquarium in the centre of the Mall is situated bang opposite a candy store. I was torn between the two. Which one should I visit? Since I didn’t have much time, I visited the candy shop instead but would advise everyone to visit the aquarium instead. ( Yes, another Ivy Moment).
Ever since I returned, I’ve been meaning to showcase the photographs but with one thing leading to another, they just remained in my folders. Finally, I discovered MetaSlider, a nifty plugin for WordPress and I’m trying to use it. Some of the photographs aren’t aligned properly and I am trying to figure out how to use them. However, I assure you, that when you do visit the Mall, you definitely won’t find it upside down!
Claps of thunder and a bursts of lightening disturbed the early morning peace. Like a noisy encore to a wet and gloomy Monday symphony, it was a sign say goodbye to my mango summer. Despite the heat, summer is best spent in Mumbai because it is that time of year when the schools are closed and I could enjoy the restful quiet of near empty roads ; a time to make pickles and preserves; a time to celebrate with friends and family.
Summer also meant sunset walks in the company of a warm sea breeze or early morning ramblings. It meant fresh fish before the fishing stopped and movies in air-conditionned pleasure.
But this summer was oppressively hot and I’m glad to bid farewell. It’s sad to see King Alphonso go but glad to welcome the sweet Kesar, and its Northern cousins Dussheri and Langda. Seasonal fruit like Peaches, Lychees, plums and cherries , growing in cooler climes once again make their presence felt in our markets and supermarket shelves.
It’s time for walks in light rain showers, eating roasted corn, smoked on coal. Hot cups of tea with bhajias made of onion or potato.

So into the cupboard back they go, my cool summer whites and open toes and out come the flip flops and capris and umbrellas that turn upside down. It’s time to to latch the windows and fasten them so they don’t fly off in a gust of wind. It’s time to say goodbye to sheets drying in the summer sun but bring them in to dry,
Our monsoon spell is short but sweet and it won’t be long before the sun comes out again.
