Even thought there are literally hundreds of themes out there in the virtual world, it is hard to decide which one you want to use.
What kind of a blog do you want?
What is your niche?
Who is your audience?
Well if you are a newbie blogger, all these words are just Latin and Greek to you ( unless of course you happen to know either Latin or Greek or both!)
Well, actually there are different themes to choose from on different platforms.
By now you must have figured out which platform you want to use WordPress or Blogger.
Having worked on both, I must admit that WordPress is easier to work with simply because it is more visual and offers many more options to customise your blog. With Blogger and its pre-set templates, It is hard to really tweak.
I’m participating in the #BarAThon – a blogging Challenge which involves blogging on every alternate day from Jun 17 – Jun 30, 2017. For each of the seven days, bloggers are free to choose either a theme (‘Seven’) or one of the seven prompts based on Book Titles for each day. I’ve chosen “Call of the Wind” as my inspiration for today’s post.
For the past few days ( from Sunday to be precise), I’ve literally been blown away with the inclement monsoon weather. Mumbaikars, Bombayites, Bambaiyas or whatever else you would want to call them, are all too familiar with the strong winds that blow umbrellas inside out, that make window panes fly away, bring strong trees crashing down and make shutting windows impossible.
Resisting the call of the wind
But when you have such a long, stretch of inviting promenade, it’s hard to resist the call of the wind and there are literally hundreds of Mumbaikars walking along. Or jogging along. Or just hanging out. Marine Drive is the place to be.

Equally hard to resist is this view that I get when I answer the call of the wind from my rear balcony. Can I get a better high?
However, there is another kind of wind whose call it is hard to resist – one that is closer to home. but in order to avoid an embarassing situation , everyone should practice Pavanmuktasan or the “wind releasing pose”!

Teachers are the unsung heroes of our society and no sooner do we get our degree, than we forget about them. Even though Teacher’s Day is a long way yet, I’d like to talk about an extraordinary teacher, Swaroop Sampat Rawal who has seamlessly juggled roles from passionate and successful actor to teacher and social influencer.
Tweaking teaching
This video by Aditya Rawal highlights the importance of having the right teacher.
Swaroop Sampat Rawal, heroine of yesteryear’s TV Hit sit-com Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and who was recently seen as Kia’s mother in Balki’s in “Ki or Ka” has a side to her that very few people are aware of, leave alone her fans.
How many of you know that as late as 2006, she earned a PhD in Education from the University of Worcester ? And did you know her doctoral thesis was for her research on education, drama and learning disabilities ? In fact earlier this month the University conferred an honorary degree in recognition of her work encouraging girls and young women to continue with education in Gujarat and her work with Save the Children to change the lives of disadvantaged children in India.
Apart from the fact that Swaroop has introduced a new concept into teaching, she continues to help the underprivileged conducting camps in tribal areas of Jawhar ( around Mumbai’s Wada District). She is also training primary school teachers in Gujarat. And trying to work with other Governments to make education more meaningful, especially to the underprivileged.
Why I salute Swaroop
Swaroop comes from a privileged background and she could very well have spent her life as a lady of leisure. But already inspired by her oncologist mother, she had dreams of following her footsteps. Fate had other plans and she landed up following father’s vocation and pursued her passion for acting. In the course of her unusual life path, she married the man of her dreams, raised two amazing sons and got two doctorates in Education instead.
I salute this lady who continues to remain young at heart. She is as agile as a twenty year old, I may add. Not one to rest on her laurels, she continues to be motivated and motivating . But above all, she still has the ability to enjoy life and laugh!
