Mumbai’s zoo is not the best zoos in the world, but it does have a marvellous collection of trees. Last year, the zoo acquired some Penguins and after a brief visit to the penguins, Wow Dinga wanted to play on the equipment.
While waiting , we happened to look up and spied a tree full of bats .
Who do you think was more astonished ? Us, looking at the bats or the bats who were staring down at us ?

A Batty Tree! An amazing sight. I think, the bats wouldn’t have noticed you guys, for they are nocturnal animals and sleep during the day! :)

Wow, that was batty indeed. As a kid, I used to love going to the zoo and look at all those animals (in Delhi, never been to the Mumbai one), but as I became older, I realized how pitiful and cruel the conditions are for the poor animals, so I stopped going.

I would have been astonished-and scared. My son was bitten by a bat several years ago and had to have rabies shots. It was an ordeal for him. They are part of our environment but…

“Bats who were staring down at us!!” That must have been creepy. Several trees that were home to Bats were cut down in Pune and I do feel sad for them.. I wonder where they must have gone now…
That’s a Baobab isn’t it? I visited Rani Chi Bag in Mumbai when I was a child and have faint memories .. I have to plan a mumbai visit just to see the trees in this garden…

Yes that’s one of the few places in Mumbai where you will see the Baobab. And you must come to the spout really is a gorgeous Victorian Garden

I remember having seen the eucalyptus trees, housing the colonies of bats near Mryutyunjayeshwar Temple, Kothrud Pune. Come evening and you would see them venturing out in intimidating numbers!
I used to get more than astonished on sighting them!

I think the tree was a regular Indian Rain Tree . It just had a whole pile of bats hanging downwards

Wow ! what a beautiful sight of the bats on the tree… never seen anything like this in my life, am also afraid of bats and I wonder how you could click this pic….
