Twenty- five Seven

Personally speaking

Heaven in a Cloud

Two years ago we lost my father-in-law. Though he was very old and the children quite young, they still remember him. Unlike many old people , he enjoyed their company and he played with them every day. When he passed away, they were quite distraught.

We explained to them that he had gone to heaven and has become a star. They felt comforted knowing that he looked down on them every day

One lovely summer evening Ms. Papaya and I were sitting on the swing in the garden. We watched the clouds in the sky, the birds flying home and the sun slowly setting .

Suddenly, Ms. Papaya asked me very solemnly,

“Ajji, when you die, will you go up to heaven on a cloud?”

Any talk of my dying and leaving her makes her anxious so I told her it was a long way before that happened.

She seemed satisfied with the answer

But as I watched the clouds floating above, I  thought it was a delightful idea to be taken up to heaven on a soft fluffy cloud.

Don’t you think so?

Ciao

  3. Innocent are the ways of the pure-hearted little children! I would love to explore the way up to heaven floating on the clouds, something on the lines of Alladin’s magical carpet.

  4. Becoming a cloud would be a nice idea. I am not sure. Death and after-life confuses me a lot. I am as curious about it as Ms Papaya.

  6. so nice to read your post after a long time. It is very difficult to make children understand the concept of death. However, for me, I would like to be a fluffy cloud watching over my girls.

  7. Aww…that question tore my heart, Sunita! Just imagine the anxiety the little one must have!
Floating “away” on a cloud does seem a beautiful thing! It’s what we always imagined as kids. :)

  11. Yep! Definitely a luxurious way to fly up.

My kid who is almost 7, recently wrote a story in which the bad guy got killed and ‘zoomed’ up to heaven!
